As part of a series of activities lined up in commemoration of Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, 146 Battalion Nigerian Army has donated educational materials to schools, wheelchairs as well as crutches to persons with special needs.
Other activities were mentorship discussion with corps members and youths at Lt Gen F Yahaya Camp and Eburutu Military Cantonment in Rivers and Cross River states respectively.

Major beneficiaries of the educational outreach were Community Junior Secondary School, Finima in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State and youths in Eburutu Military Cantonment Calabar, Cross River State.
The wheelchairs and crutches were donated to persons with special needs at Lt Gen F Yahaya Camp in Bonny Island, Rivers State and Eburutu Military Cantonment Mammy Market, Calabar, Cross River State.

NADCEL is an annual event held by the Nigerian Army to commemorate its establishment, showcase its activities, achievements and commitment to national security.
The celebration usually includes various activities such as parades, demonstrations, award ceremonies, community engagement and developmental projects.
Earlier in July, the Commanding Officer 146 Battalion, Lt Col Oyemade Ade Oyewumi and his team hosted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Bonny Island at Lt Gen F Yahaya Camp Bonny Island, Rivers State to a mentorship discussion.

Speaking on the essence of the event, the Commanding Officer stated that “success is not measured by trophies or accolades but by positive impacts we have made in the lives of others”.
Lt Col Oyemade also stated that the main effort was aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and stakeholder engagement within the barracks community.
According to him, this series of events resonates with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede’s statement in the NADCEL 2025 Interdenominational Service, “Loyalty of soldiers, key to Army transformation.”
On Saturday, July 17 2025, 146 Battalion led by its Commanding Officer, hosted barracks youths to the 2nd Edition of 146 Battalion Barracks’ Youths Get-Together where gift items were given to soldiers’ children and wards as a sign of NA’s commitment to their well-being.

This event was part of the series of activities lined up by the Unit in commemorating NADCEL 2025.
Lt Col Oyemade further stated that “we’re donating crutches and wheelchairs to beneficiaries, as a way of furthering our commitment to inclusivity and community engagement”.

“This builds on our previous initiatives, including the mentorship discussion with corps members in Bonny Island and donation of educational materials to Community Junior Secondary School, Finima on 2 and 7 July 2025 respectively.”
NADCEL 2025 also served as an avenue to strategically engage communities and stakeholders thus boosting civil-military relations, stakeholder synergy and exerting positive impact in its areas of operation.
