Bodo-Bonny Road Now Open to Traffic; Minister Bars Okada, Keke, Trucks From Plying

The Federal Government has temporarily opened the Bodo-Bonny Road to traffic and will remain open to commuters throughout the Yuletide season.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi announced this on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Bodo and Bonny ends of the road in Rivers State.

He, however, prohibited commercial motorcycles and tricycles and heavy duty vehicles from utilizing the road until it is completed.

Umahi said it was the decision of President Ahmed Tinubu to ease commuting in the area for travelers commuting to and from Gokana, Andoni and Bonny LGAs of Rivers State.

He, however, announced that traffic on the road, which he said was 60% done so far, will be restricted between the hours of 7am and 6pm, adding that no night travels on the road.

He also announced that toll gates will be constructed along the road to generate revenue for the Federal Government.

Earlier, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Abinye Pepple, who was represented by the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government, Tamunotonye Jumbo thanked the President and Minister of Works for fulfilling their promise of temporarily opening the road to traffic.

Also speaking the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom represented by the Chairman of Bonny Chiefs Council, Se-Alabo Dagogo Claude-Wilcox expressed the appreciation of Bonny people to the President and Minister of Works for the temporary opening of the road.

After the cutting of the ribbon to declare open the road, it was instantly opened to traffic with commuters waiting on both sides to start using it.

In attendance at the event were senators, members of the House of Representatives, officials of the Bonny Local Government, members of the Bonny Chiefs Council, heads of security agencies in the area, as well as community leaders.
