The Federal High Court Judge, James Omotosho on Thursday sentenced Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment following his conviction on seven terrorism-related counts.
Omotosho quoted damning evidence from Kanu’s own phone recordings during the #EndSARS protests, where he allegedly urged:

“Every federal government property in Lagos should be burned. That would signal to the world that people have had enough. I want every federal government building in Lagos to be on fire.”
The court held that Kanu’s broadcasts and directives were not mere political rhetoric but deliberate incitement of violence. The ruling marks a momentous conclusion to a case that has drawn national and international attention, solidifying the government’s hardline stance on what it classifies as extremist activity.
The sentence will be served at a federal prison facility, and the court emphasised that it reflects the gravity of the crimes, particularly Kanu’s role in inciting violence and risking national security.
