Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles fell to a 1-0 defeat against holders Senegal in their opening game of the African Nations Championship on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar City, Tanzania.
The Super Eagles B who are in pursuit of a maiden CHAN title, having finished as runners-up in their last participation in 2018, got undone in the 75th minute when Senegal scored with their only goal on target through Christian Gomis.
The encounter which was immensely physical and saw a lot of end-to-end action, went goalless in the first half. The Teranga Lions had several chances created but were mostly met by good defensive effort from Ngenge Leonard and Captain Nduka Junior who worked hard at the rear.
The defeat means the Eagles sit at the bottom of Group D without a point, following the 1-1 draw between Congo and Sudan.
Nigeria will take on Sudan in their second group game also at the Amaan Stadium, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 and will need to win for a chance to remain in the competition.
