The Federal Government has opened applications for a new digital device financing programme that will enable eligible Nigerians to access up to ₦1 million in consumer credit to acquire laptops, smartphones, tablets and other internet-enabled devices.

The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, was officially launched on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC), Abuja, by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

Kristina Reports learnt that the programme is designed to remove the financial barrier preventing many Nigerians from owning essential digital devices by allowing successful applicants to spread payments over time instead of paying the full cost upfront. The initiative also aims to promote digital inclusion, support local manufacturing and expand access to technology-driven opportunities.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the initiative would help more Nigerians participate in the country’s growing digital economy.

According to him, access to digital skills alone is not enough if citizens cannot afford the tools required to learn, work and build businesses.

“Nigeria’s digital economy can only thrive when our people have both the skills and the tools to succeed,” the minister said.

The current rollout is being implemented in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and will begin with the distribution of 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible beneficiaries across the country. At the launch, 77 beneficiaries in Abuja received the first batch of devices as the nationwide rollout commenced.

Although the pilot phase prioritises fellows of the 3MTT programme, the application portal also allows individuals from recognised digital talent initiatives to register their interest for future phases of the scheme. Eligible applicants are required to provide personal details, employment status, the type of device needed and the purpose for which it will be used before their applications are assessed.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, described the programme as a practical step towards helping Nigerians acquire productive digital tools through responsible consumer credit while encouraging local device manufacturing and job creation.

However, CREDICORP is yet to announce key details, including interest rates, repayment duration, repayment schedule and other financing conditions. The corporation said further information would be released as the programme expands.

Interested Nigerians can submit their applications through the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal as the Federal Government continues efforts to improve access to digital devices and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
