An advance team from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, was attacked in the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, by unidentified gunmen near the Sam Mbakwe Airport corridor in Imo State.
According to an official announcement from the Governor’s office, the three-man team was on duty and heading towards Sam Mbakwe Airport when the incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, just before the airport junction. The assailants reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, causing a brief moment of chaos.

The government, however, clarified that Governor Otti’s convoy was not involved in the attack. It confirmed that no lives were lost, although the situation has heightened concerns over rising insecurity along inter-state routes within the region.
The statement, e-signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Ukoha, urged members of the public to disregard misinformation and remain calm as security agencies have since commenced investigations into the attack.
Authorities assured that more details would be communicated as investigations progress, while reinforcing the government’s commitment to the safety of its personnel and citizens.
