Bonny, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, effectively became the first local government area to host a fire station in Nigeria.
The fire station was commissioned on Tuesday, June 30 by the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Dumle Maol in Bonny.
Maol commended the Bonny LGA Chairman for matching words with action with respect to the activation of the Fire Station, urging him to do more for his people.
On his part, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Abinye Pepple expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Speaker for honouring the invitation to commission the project.
Earlier on Monday, June 29, 2026, the Bonny LGA Chairman had inaugurated the Bonny Fire Station Management Board with Furosigha Wilcox as the Chairman.
Other members include Allison Adonye Corwell; Deputy Chairman/Fire Chief, Princess Nada Onu-Pepple; Secretary, Morrison Banigo; Local Government Representative, and Ahmad Muhammad Aziz and Anita Kariso Tolofari as members.
Earlier, the Supervisor for Works in Bonny Local Government, Godswill Hart gave an outline of the layout, operational modalities and administrative setting of the facility.
Recall that the fire station project was started by Pepple during his second tenure in the State House of Assembly, and now completed and.made functional today.
The tortuous journey to make the fire station operational saw the current administration embarking on a multi-stakeholder engagement, sending an executive bill to the Bonny Legislative Council to enact a legal framework, as well as secure the buy-in of diverse interest groups.
