Hope maybe in the horizon for residents of Bonny Island, especially commuters who ply the Bodo-Bonny Road as the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has taken crucial steps to address the long-lasting issue of poor mobile telephony in the area.

Pepple on Monday, December 1 2025, put action to words as he met with representatives of the major telecommunications companies; Globacom Nigeria, MTN Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria, in his office in Bonny, Rivers State.

In attendance at the meeting were Edegbai Razak, Obike Chijioke and Brown Hannah of Globacom Nigeria, MTN Nigeria, and Airtel Nigeria, respectively

According to him, the meeting is aimed at sourcing solutions to the distressing issue of poor mobile network connectivity in the area, which, he said, has continued to pose a great challenge for residents, and has in turn, affected businesses and daily lives of commuters.

Checks by Kristina Reports indicate that for years, the Bonny-Bodo Road corridor has experienced a dilapidated communication system which has caused business owners long time frustration and at several times, interrupted economic activities, security communication and general interaction.

The Chairman described the situation as “deeply troubling” while he stressed that residents have endured for a long while.

“Network service is essential for public safety. People depend heavily on mobile and Internet connectivity for business, emergencies and their livelihoods.”

“There have been several complaints about the poor service delivery and it is overdue. Business owners and residents and a whole lot of livelihood depends on stable communication infrastructure.”

Responding, Globacom Nigeria Manager, Bonny Outlet, Edegbai Razaq acknowledged the challenges and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving service quality in the affected locations.

Similarly, MTN Nigeria Manager, Bonny Outlet, Obike Chijoke informed the Chairman of ongoing technical assessments by his company, pledging an accelerated rollout of necessary infrastructure upgrades to enhance connectivity along the route.

Also, Manager of Airtel Nigeria in Bonny, Hannah Brown expressed the readiness of her company to support immediate service improvements to benefit its customers in the area.

The Chairman urged the telecom operators to treat the issue as a matter of urgency while pointing out that it would help strengthen security, improve daily lives and ensure growth and development in Bonny Island.

In addition to the atmosphere of hope, was an arrangement to set up a joint monitoring team to track progress, ensure accountability and guarantee that the promised improvements are delivered without delay.

For residents and travellers, who have suffered years of dropped calls, failed transactions and communication blackouts, this intervention sends a signal of a long-waited glimpse of hope.

Expectations are high that when actualized, these network connectivity improvements would transform daily life in Bonny and restore the confidence of commuter along the Bodo-Bonny Road.
