The Nigerian Navy has handed over suspected illicit drugs and other recovered items to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bonny, Rivers State, following a security operation targeting suspected criminal hideouts around Coal Beach Waterside and adjoining communities.
The handover, which took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, followed a deterrence and fighting patrol conducted by naval Special Forces on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

The recovered substances included 65 pieces of whitish crystalline material suspected to be methamphetamine, 114 capsules suspected to be tramadol and 575 units of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.
Other items handed over included two wristwatches, four crushers, two bunkers, four packs of Rizz, one small ITEL button phone and ₦2,100 cash.
The formal handover was performed by the Regulating Officer of FOB Bonny, Lieutenant Commander Abdulrahman Buniyamin, while Deputy Superintendent of Narcotics Ibiam Stephen received the items on behalf of the NDLEA Bonny Area Command for further investigation and necessary action.
According to the FOB Bonny, the Navy deployed 20 personnel drawn from its Special Boat Service (SBS) and Deep Blue Element in two armoured personnel carriers at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday to reinforce security across the land and maritime domains.
The patrol team advanced towards Coal Beach Waterside/Jetty, where operatives searched a forested settlement along the waterfront after reportedly sighting several young men fleeing deeper into the bush.
A subsequent search of makeshift huts within the area led to the recovery of the suspected illicit substances and other items.
The operatives thereafter extended their patrol to the Ama Hausa axis, where suspected individuals were reported to have fled before their arrival, conducting further searches around adjoining locations, including No Man’s Land.

Although no arrests were made, the Navy reported that the operation disrupted suspected illicit drug-related activities and reinforced security presence within the affected areas.
The transfer of the recovered substances to the NDLEA underscores ongoing inter-agency collaboration in tackling drug trafficking, substance abuse and associated criminal activities within Bonny Local Government Area.
The substances remain suspected illicit drugs pending appropriate forensic examination and confirmation by the relevant authorities.
With the recovered items now in NDLEA custody, attention shifts to further investigation, identification of those responsible and efforts to prevent suspected drug hideouts from resurfacing within Bonny’s waterfront settlements and adjoining communities.
