The spur off the major road in the road expansion project stretching from Amaomu Junction to the King Perekule Palace will commence in the next few days, the contractor, Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL) has announced.
Evomec’s Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, High Chief Peter Esievo announced this on Friday, July 3, 2026 during a sensitisation meeting in Bonny, Rivers State, informing that the road will be motorable and utilizable to commuters by August 2026.

Represented by the Project Manager of the Bonny Road Expansion (BRE), Oboho Asanwana, the Evomec CEO expressed appreciation to both residents and stakeholders for their support since the commencement of the project from the gate of the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT) in January, 2026.

He stated that the spur from Amaomu Junction to the King Perekule Palace will be approximately five meters in diameter, take advantage of various discharge points to connect the drainages on the road to, while the interlocking stones along the road will be replaced with concrete.
The Evomec CEO used the opportunity to thank all stakeholders for their support, while appealing for more support, noting that though the inconveniences are minimal they will not last for long.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), Se-Alabo Dagogo Claude-Wilcox expressed the appreciation of the Council to all stakeholders for their sustained support for the project, pointing out that road construction in riverine areas like Bonny, remains a difficult task, saying it is not easy.

He also called on mothers in the area around the project to keep their children out of the project vicinity, while urging patience and cooperation with the contractor to successfully deliver the project.
Earlier, the acting Chairman of the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC), Dr Tonye Willie-Pepple noted that the road expansion project has come a long way, and is currently transforming the topography and landscape of Bonny.

He asserted that with the land link to Port Harcourt and other places, it has become imperative that this change has to be shaped to the advantage of Bonny Kingdom, commending relevant stakeholders and residents for their continuous support, adding that such support has been critical to the success of project.
On his part, the Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development at the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), Dr Yemi Adeyemi, who was represented the company’s Community Relations Advisor, Joseph Ogoh reechoed NLNG’s advocacy for the buy-in of all stakeholders.
He noted that the company views the support of stakeholders and Bonny residents as a demonstration of ownership and expression of commitment to the project success, observing that this support was critical to achieving the manhours without Lost Time Injuries (LTI).

The Train 7 team represented by the company’s Project Manager, Jackson Ohwojeheri acknowledged the challenges being faced by the people of Bonny due to the project, stating however that the benefits of project outweigh such challenges, noting that that the project has progressed significantly and was at 34.47% at the moment.

He commended Evomec for giving upfront the strategy for delivering the next phase of the project, as well as making special consideration for Ikuba Square, Allison Square and other special areas, informing that so far, the project has achieved 347 manhours without LTI, adding that the benefits of the project will be enjoyed by all.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Secretary of BKDC, Dr Victor Jumbo informed that the sensitization meeting is aimed at providing current and adequate information on the road expansion project, especially, the spur off into Court Road, saying that it would create avenue for information sharing, responding to questions and providing clarity on existential issues around the project.
