The Management of Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has announced new measures to regulate vehicular movement on campus following the tragic death of Miss Eno Udoson, a resident of the University’s main campus.

In an official letter dated June 24, 2026, and signed by the acting Registrar and Secretary to the University Council, Idanyingi Daminabo, the institution expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, and extended condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones.

According to the University Management, Miss Eno lost her life as a result of the alleged reckless driving of two students identified as Darlington Kosi Onuaku of the Department of Development and Communication Studies and Obinna Daniel Ikechi of the Department of Computer Science.

The institution stated that the two students have been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Following an emergency management meeting held on Wednesday June 24, the University announced a number of measures aimed at improving safety on campus.

Among the new directives, undergraduate students are prohibited from driving personal vehicles into the campus between 4:00pm and 7:00am.

Hence, students who bring vehicles to the university are required to park them at the designated car park near the main entrance and make use of the University’s authorised shuttle services within the campus.

The Management also directed that Postgraduate and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) students will only be allowed to drive personal vehicles on campus upon presentation of valid University identification cards.

In addition, any student found engaging in reckless driving will face suspension and other disciplinary actions, while their vehicles may be impounded.

The University further announced that visiting hours to its hotels will now end at 6:00 p.m. daily for security reasons.

To enhance road safety, management approved speed limits of 30 kilometres per hour on major campus roads and 20 kilometres per hour within residential areas.

RSU Management said the measures are part of efforts to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors within the university community.
