Rivers State University (RSU) has made history, achieving full accreditation for all 74 of its study programs from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other professional bodies, signaling the institution’s commitment to quality education.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi announced this on Monday, December 1, 2025 during a press briefing at the university’s main campus, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State as part of activities to mark the 37th and 38th combined convocation ceremony.

He said that 65 programs have full accreditation, while nine are resource-verified attributing this success to the robust support of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently approved N700 million for the accreditation exercise.

According to him, the university is now targeting smart campuses and innovative learning experiences, with plans to deepen its digital standards.

“We are ensuring that every part of the university’s main and satellite campuses have access to broadband Internet and smart classrooms across faculties to drive learning in this digital age.”

The 37th and 38th combined convocation ceremony is currently underway, with 10,648 undergraduates and 2,594 postgraduates, making a total of 13,142 graduands ready for convocation on Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, 2025.

The weeklong convocation ceremony, which started on Sunday, November 30, with a thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Redemption, features a two-day exhibition, convocation lecture, cultural displays and sports.

There will also be awarding of degrees, diplomas, and honorary distinctions to deserving graduands on Friday and Saturday at the University’s Convocation Arena, situated in the main campus.

Other achievements of the university under Professor Zeb-Obipi’s administration include the introduction of the Sequential Actor Results Presentation (SARP), which has guaranteed the results approval of 2025 graduands within a month after final examination.

Feats achieved by his administration also includes the creation of the Student Sponsor Account on the University’s portal, which enables parents, guardians, and sponsoring organizations to monitor their beneficiary and carry out activities on their behalf.

The university has also maintained a strict academic calendar, with timely staff promotions, compulsory annual health examinations, training and retraining programs, and other milestones.

Despite these achievements, the university faces challenges, including inadequate manpower, infrastructural gaps, and security concerns in Emohua Campus.

To address these issues, the university has resolved to return some students to the main campus and is seeking government support for infrastructure development.

Professor Zeb-Obipi was recognized for his outstanding leadership, receiving the Best Vice Chancellor award from the National Network Group of Newspapers.
