Across Italy, Germany, and the Czech Republic, Super Eagles stars were at the heart of the action in mid-week European clashes.
Highlighted by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s instant impact in Lazio’s six-goal rout, Terem Moffi’s cup goal for Hamburger SV, and a landmark career brace from teenage midfielder Mubarak Suleiman, Nigerian players continue to prove why they are a force to be reckoned with.
Dele-Bashiru Assists as Lazio Hit Six to Stay Top of Serie A
Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was in fine form as Lazio delivered a ruthless performance, thrashing 10-man Sassuolo 6-2 to cement their spot at the top of the Serie A table.
Introduced at the start of the second half, Dele-Bashiru made an instant impact in a chaotic eight-goal thriller that featured a red card, early drama, and relentless attacking football.
Lazio took the lead just two minutes in through Kenneth Taylor before Sassuolo’s Kristian Thorstvedt equalized in the 7th minute.
Quickfire goals from Gustav Isaksen and Romano Floriani Mussolini—scoring his first-ever Serie A goal—put Lazio 3-1 ahead.
The game tilted permanently in Lazio’s favor in the 31st minute when Thorstvedt was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Mattia Zaccagni.
Sassuolo pulled one back through Sebastiano Esposito, but Zaccagni restored Lazio’s two-goal cushion on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half, Tijjani Noslin extended Lazio’s lead to 5-2 before Dele-Bashiru set up Noslin’s second goal in the 61st minute—a powerful strike from the edge of the box to cap off the 6-2 victory.
The win moves Lazio to 25 points, three clear of Inter Milan, marking their first nine-game unbeaten start to a Serie A campaign since their Scudetto-winning 1999–2000 season.
Terem Moffi Scores Consolation Goal in Hamburger SV’s DFB-Pokal Exit
Over in Germany, Terem Moffi got on the scoresheet for Hamburger SV, but his effort wasn’t enough to stop them from crashing out of the DFB-Pokal in a 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
After a tight, goalless first half at the Volksparkstadion that saw Frankfurt’s Nnamdi Collins and Mario Götze pick up early bookings, the visitors took control after the break.
Robin Koch broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a header from a set piece. Jonathan Burkardt then doubled Frankfurt’s lead off a Götze assist, before substitute Younes Ebnoutalib made it 3-0 in the 75th minute.
Moffi pulled one back for the hosts shortly after to grab his second goal of the season, but HSV couldn’t mount a late miracle.
The 27-year-old Super Eagles forward was substituted three minutes after his goal, making way for Alexander Røssing in the 79th minute.
The encounter also featured two other players of Nigerian descent on the winning side, with Raphael Onyedika and defender Nnamdi Collins helping Frankfurt secure their place in the Round of 16.
Mubarak Suleiman Bags Historic Brace in Slavia Prague’s Cup Dominance
19-year-old midfielder Mubarak Suleiman continued his sensational form, scoring twice to guide Slavia Prague to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Zbrojovka Brno in the MOL Cup at the Fortuna Arena.
Suleiman, who recently earned his first invitation to the Super Eagles squad, opened the scoring in the first half by sliding in to meet David Zima’s low cross.
He completed his first-ever career brace five minutes from time, picking up a layoff from Mojmír Chytil before curling a magnificent effort into the top corner from the edge of the penalty box.
The performance brings the teenager’s tally to three goals and one assist in 10 appearances across all competitions this season.
Suleiman’s rapidly rising profile continues to catch eyes internationally, following his call-up for Nigeria’s recent friendly against Russia.
