The Abia State Government has completed the recruitment of 4,074 teachers under the second batch of its ongoing teacher employment programme.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Kanu, announced the completion of the exercise on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Umuahia.
Kanu said all successful applicants had received notifications of their appointments.
According to him, the recruitment was conducted strictly on merit and followed a transparent selection process, with 50.5 per cent set as the cut-off mark.
The commissioner said the newly employed teachers would help address shortages in schools across the state, especially in areas facing a lack of teachers and subject specialists.
He disclosed that the successful candidates would begin their onboarding and orientation next week before being posted to schools across the state.
The recruitment forms part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen the education sector by improving the availability of qualified teachers and enhancing teaching and learning in public schools.
