The Abia State Government has concluded plans to name the newly constructed Umuahia Bus Terminal after Prof. Nnenna Oti in recognition of her role during the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Prof. Oti, who served as the Returning Officer for the election, gained national attention following her insistence on transparency and adherence to due process during the collation of results.

Her position reportedly led to a delay of over 48 hours before the final declaration of results, as she maintained that only duly accredited votes and authentic figures from polling units would be accepted.
The controversy particularly surrounded results from Obingwa Local Government Area, where allegations of vote inflation emerged during the collation process.

Despite mounting pressure, Oti insisted that the officially declared figures must reflect the actual votes cast, a stance that eventually led to the declaration of Alex Otti as winner of the election.
The decision by the state government to immortalise the FUTO Vice Chancellor is being viewed by many as recognition of courage, integrity, and commitment to democratic principles.

Supporters of the move say naming the Umuahia Bus Terminal after her would serve as a symbol of accountability and encourage public officials entrusted with sensitive national assignments to uphold the rule of law without fear or compromise.
Observers have also described the decision as a reflection of the administration’s appreciation for individuals who contributed to the credibility of the electoral process in Abia State.
