Abua/Odual LG Flags Off Optimized Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week

In a bid to assure the health of mothers, their babies and children in its domain, the Abua/Odual Local Government has flagged off the second phase of the Optimized Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (OMNCHW).

Vice Chairman of Abua/Odual LGA, Victoria Abhunu performed the flagging off ceremony on Monday, November 25, 2025 at the Ayama Primary Health Center, Ayama Community in Abua/Odual LGA.

The (OMNCHW) is a strategic health intervention scheme designed to improve the well-being of pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants, and young children across Abua/Odual LGA.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mrs. Abhunu reaffirmed the Owolobi Ofori led administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and ensuring that no mother or child is left behind.

She stressed that maternal and child health remains a top priority under the current administration, in line with the Hon. Owolobi Ofori’s Uru Odighi developmental agenda for Abua/Odual LGA.

The (OMNCHW) initiative its focus is to bring essential health services closer to the people, including routine immunization, antenatal support, nutrition screening, deworming, Vitamin A supplementation, malaria prevention, and health education for caregivers.

The Abua/Odual LGA Vice Chairman commended the health workers and partners who continue to deliver these critical services with dedication.

She also encouraged mothers and caregivers across the LGA to take full advantage of the week-long activities by visiting designated health centers to receive free, quality care for themselves and their children.

She stated that through this program, mothers and children in rural and urban communities will enjoy improved access to life-saving care.

The second phase of the MNCHW marks yet another step in the Council’s effort to promote healthier families and build a stronger, more vibrant Abua/Odual.
