The Actors Guild of Nigeria has formally lifted the indefinite suspension placed on Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, restoring her full membership rights and eligibility to work in film productions.

The reinstatement was announced on Friday, January 30, 2026, during the inauguration of the guild’s newly elected National Executive Council held in Abuja.

Halima Abubakar’s suspension was originally imposed in October 2024 following the conclusion of a guild investigation into allegations of defamation and misconduct involving colleagues and other individuals.

The disciplinary action barred the actress from participating in all AGN activities and from appearing in Nollywood film projects for over 15 months.

The decision to lift the suspension was disclosed by the outgoing AGN National President, Emeka Rollas, as part of his final actions before handing over leadership.

Rollas explained that he did not want to leave any member of the guild under suspension at the end of his tenure.

He stated that acting remains Halima Abubakar’s primary source of livelihood and that it would be unfair to continue restricting her professional career indefinitely.

The reinstatement was announced at the same ceremony where Abubakar Yakubu was officially inaugurated as the new National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

The leadership transition marked the end of Emeka Rollas’ second and final term as AGN president, which concluded in December 2025.

Halima Abubakar had previously challenged her suspension through legal action against the guild during the period of the disciplinary measure.

The lifting of the suspension now clears the actress to resume full participation in Nollywood productions and guild-related activities.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria confirmed that the decision takes immediate effect.

The development brings to an end a prolonged disciplinary episode that had kept the actress out of active professional engagement since October 2024.
