Nigerian forward Akor Adams was the hero of the day, continuing his clinical form this season to help his side secure three crucial points in their fight for La Liga survival.

The 26-year-old striker set the tone early in the match when Sevilla were awarded a penalty. Akor Adams stepped up and successfully converted the spot-kick, despite Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso getting a hand to the ball.

This strike marked Adams’ 8th goal of the campaign, taking his total goal contributions to 12 in 27 appearances.

While Atletico Madrid responded through a Javier Bonar header, Sevilla regained control just before the interval.

Nemanja Gudelj powered home a header from a Ruben Vargas cross to put the hosts back in front.

Reflecting on the team’s effort and the electric atmosphere in the stadium, the Super Eagles star was quick to credit the collective work of the squad and the local supporters.

“We gave 100% and achieved our objective, which was the three points. The fans’ support was incredible; it gave us a great energy,” he told the club’s official website.

The match also featured a Nigerian derby feel, with Ademola Lookman appearing as a late substitute for Atletico and Chidera Ejuke on the Sevilla bench.

However, it was Adams who remained the focal point, playing 94 minutes of high-intensity football before being replaced by Batista Mendy.

The striker highlighted the importance of the bond between the players and the stands. According to the forward, that connection is the key to maintaining their winning momentum.

“We play for them, and if we’re all like this, we’ll be happy every week,” the Nigeria international told the club’s official website.

Sevilla remained disciplined in the second half, nearly adding a third when Isaac Romero hit the post.

Despite Diego Simeone making several changes for Atletico, the home side held firm. Adams made sure to recognise the defensive and midfield shifts that allowed the attackers to shine.

“Everyone played a good game: Manu and Agoumé in midfield, Castrín at the back, and everyone else. We all achieved our goal,” added Adams.

With this victory, Sevilla moves into a more comfortable position, buoyed by the “unstoppable spirit” praised by their star Nigerian frontman.
