The Imo East Senatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party, Chima Matthew Amadi, has donated a total of ₦3.5 million to support community development and the medical treatment of an elderly woman in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
Amadi made the donations on Monday, August 10, 2026, while speaking at the annual August Meeting of the Women’s Wing of the Okpulla Amakaohia Development Union in Ikeduru.
The candidate donated ₦3 million to support development initiatives of the Okpulla Amakaohia Development Union, while another ₦500,000 was offered to an elderly woman he encountered at the gathering to assist with her medical evaluation and treatment.
The medical intervention followed Amadi’s encounter with the woman, who was reported to have a conspicuous growth around her throat.
The condition drew his attention to the difficulty faced by residents who struggle to access timely and affordable healthcare, prompting him to offer the financial assistance for her treatment.

“It is about our common humanity.”
“Nobody should have to carry an illness for years simply because she cannot afford medical attention,” Amadi said.
The donations formed part of Amadi’s engagement with women and other community stakeholders as he canvassed greater attention to the living conditions of ordinary residents.
He decried what he described as worsening socioeconomic conditions across communities in Imo State, citing poor healthcare delivery, infrastructural deficits, declining standards in public schools, deplorable roads, unemployment and economic hardship among the challenges confronting residents.
Amadi attributed the challenges to what he described as years of poor representation and misplaced priorities, insisting that governments and elected representatives must be more responsive to the needs of the people.
“The poor can’t continue to remain poor while a privileged few continue to prosper from our collective resources.”
“Our mothers cannot continue to struggle with medical bills, our children cannot continue to learn in dilapidated schools, and our young people cannot continue to roam the streets without jobs and opportunities.”
“Government must work for the ordinary people,” he said.
He also challenged women in Imo East to convert their numerical strength and influence at the grassroots into electoral power by demanding accountable, responsive and development-oriented representation.
According to him, women occupy strategic positions within families and communities and therefore bear a significant portion of the consequences of economic hardship and poor governance.
He urged them to use their influence to support leaders capable of delivering tangible development while holding elected representatives accountable for their promises.
Amadi also raised concerns over the state of public education, warning that the continued decline of public schools could deepen inequality and deprive children from poor families of opportunities for social and economic advancement.
“As a son of nobody who is a proud product of public schools, I weep daily seeing education gradually becoming the exclusive preserve of privileged members of society,” he said.
He argued that public education had historically provided children from disadvantaged backgrounds with opportunities to improve their circumstances and called for renewed investment in the sector.
The event provided an opportunity for Amadi to commend the women for their contributions to community development, grassroots mobilisation and community cohesion.
The National Vice President of the OADU Women’s Wing, Victoria Ugochi, also commended Amadi for identifying with the women and supporting the community’s development aspirations.
Chukwu specifically appreciated the ₦3 million community donation and the ₦500,000 medical intervention, describing the gestures as signs of concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens.
The engagement marked the beginning of Amadi’s August Meeting engagements with women and stakeholders across communities in Imo State, with his campaign message centred on improved living conditions, stronger representation and greater economic opportunities for residents.
The combined ₦3.5 million intervention also brought a humanitarian dimension to the political engagement, as the senatorial candidate linked his appeal for political change with immediate support for community development and a vulnerable resident.
The development comes as political activities ahead of the Imo East Senatorial contest continue to draw increased attention to issues of representation, infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic opportunities across the district.
