Amusan’s Ascendancy Continues in Stunning Paris Diamond League Display

Season’s Best, Second Place Finish, Brilliant Execution, Beaming with Confidence: Tobi Amusan’s Paris Diamond League Race had it all.
Tobi Amusan, fondly known as Tobi Express, lived true to her name as she stormed to a Season’s Best time of 12.24s to finish second in the Women’s 100m Hurdles Final at the Paris Diamond League on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Amusan who was just 30 milliseconds shy of first place, was outpaced by American Grace Stark who ran a Meeting Record time of 12.21s, with Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finishing third in a time of 12.30s. Amusan improved massively on her time in the May Diamond League in Rabat, where she also had a phenomenal race, setting a Meeting Record and Season’s Best of 12.45s.

Amusan had after the 2024 Summer Olympics, relocated to Jamaica from the United States, following her patnership with new coach Glen Mills who coached Usain Bolt, parting ways with Lacena Goulding-Clarke, who had coached her since 2016 – from her college days at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) to her history-making moment at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, where she won the world title and broke the World Record running 12.12s.
Ascendancy: The 2025 Journey.
With the changes in location and coaching staff, Amusan began her 2025 season on Sunday, March 23, at the Velocity Fest in Jamaica, where she participated in the 100m sprint race and won with a time of 11.28s against a field of 100m specialists.
On Saturday, April 26, Amusan returned to her speciality – the 100m Hurdles, and clocked a time of 12.74s(-0.3m/s) to finish fourth at the Xiamen Diamond League.
In May, the 28-year-old then improved on her start to the year, running 12.66s to finish fourth in the Keqiao Diamond League in China. In Heat 2 of the Atalanta City Games, she further bettered her time and placed second with 12.53s.
In June, she ran in the sprint event again, this time, running a Season’s Best of 11.18s but finishing fourth against a respectable field of 100m specialists at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica.
And on Friday, June 20, she ran her second fastest time in history, and third fastest time in all conditions to finish second in the women’s 100m Hurdles at the Paris Diamond League.
With 12.74s in April, 12.66s to 12.45s in May and now 12.24s in June, it points to one thing – Tobi Amusan is not only back, she is making serious progress and will be ready to shine in the World Athletics Championships will be held in Tokyo from September 13-21, 2025 .
