Super Eagles winger Anayo Iwuala produced a match-winning display on Friday night, registering a goal and an assist to power Al Arabi SC to a comfortable home win over Al Qadsia SC in the Kuwait Premier League Championship Group Round 2.
The Nigerian forward was central to everything positive for the hosts at the Sabah Al Salem Stadium, first creating the opener before finishing off the game himself to secure all three points in style.
Iwuala drives Al Arabi’s second-half surge
After a quiet first half, Al Arabi finally broke the deadlock shortly after the restart when Iwuala delivered a perfectly weighted assist for Komail Al Aswad to make it 1–0. From that moment, the hosts took full control of the contest.
Iwuala then capped off his performance in the closing stages, linking up neatly with Zaid Qunbar before calmly finishing to put the result beyond doubt and underline his growing influence in the squad.
Strong response after past heartbreak against Al Qadsia
This standout display carried added meaning, coming months after Iwuala endured a painful Super Cup defeat against Al Qadsia, where he also scored and assisted but ended on the losing side in a dramatic 4–3 result.
This time, there was no late collapse. His contributions proved decisive as Al Arabi held firm to secure victory and extend their strong run of form.
The win stretches Al Arabi’s unbeaten streak to six matches (three wins, three draws), keeping them second in the championship group with 36 points.
They sit just one point ahead of Al Qadsia but remain 12 behind leaders Kuwait SC with three matches left to play.
Attention now shifts to a crucial away trip against Kuwait SC, a fixture that could shape the direction of the title race.
The momentum, however, is firmly on Al Arabi’s side after lifting the Crown Prince Cup last month—an achievement that marked their 10th triumph in the competition.
