The Broadway musical Beaches has confirmed it will now end its run earlier than expected, with its final performance scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Majestic Theatre in New York City.
The production was initially billed to continue through Sunday, September 6, 2026, before the revised closure date was announced following weeks of mounting industry attention around its performance on Broadway.

The development comes shortly after the show was completely shut out of the 2026 Tony Awards nominations announced on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, a moment that intensified discussions within theatre circles about its commercial trajectory.
In an official statement, producer Jennifer Maloney-Prezioso expressed appreciation for the cast, crew and audiences who supported the production during its Broadway journey.
“Bringing a new musical to Broadway is always an enormous undertaking, and we are deeply proud of this company who created a production filled with heart, humanity, humor, and emotional truth.”

“Night after night, audiences have laughed, cried, called their friends on the way out of the theater, and connected deeply with this story of friendship and love.”
“That impact is real, and it will stay with people long after the final curtain.”
The statement confirmed that the musical will officially close on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following its Broadway opening on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, and previews which began on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Beaches is adapted from the 1985 novel by Iris Rainer Dart, which also inspired the 1988 film starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey.
The Broadway production is co-directed by Lonny Price and Matt Cowart, with Jessica Vosk starring as Cee Cee Bloom and Kelli Barrett as Bertie White.
Despite its emotional storytelling and nostalgic appeal, the production struggled to maintain strong momentum after opening, leading to its shortened Broadway lifespan.
The producers also confirmed that although the Broadway run is ending, a North American tour is planned for 2027, with further details expected to be announced in due course.
Following the announcement, reactions have continued across social media platforms, with fans praising the lead performances while others debated whether the Tony Awards shutout influenced the production’s early closure.
As Beaches prepares for its final curtain on Sunday, May 24, 2026, it closes a brief but widely discussed Broadway chapter marked by high expectations and intense industry scrutiny.
