Bonny Chiefs’ Council Celebrates King Edward I at 61, Applauds Legacy of Transformational Leadership

The Bonny Chiefs’ Council has joined the people of the Ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom in celebrating the 61st birthday of His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Edward I, CON, DSSRS, JP, Perekule XI, describing the revered monarch as a symbol of wisdom, humility and purposeful leadership.

In a goodwill message released on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the council lauded the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Grand Bonny Kingdom for his enduring commitment to the peace, unity and development of the kingdom throughout his reign.

The message, jointly signed by the Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs’ Council, His Excellency, Se-Alabo (Amb.) Dagogo Soala Claude-Wilcox, FSS, MON, KSC, JP, and the Secretary, Festus Pepple, celebrated both the King’s new age and his remarkable contributions to the progress of the Ibani people.

The council described the monarch as a leader whose wisdom, humility and love for his people continue to illuminate the path of the Bonny Kingdom.

“Today, we celebrate the gift of life, as well as the extraordinary reign of a King whose wisdom, humility, and love for his people continue to illuminate the path of Bonny Kingdom,” the statement read.

The chiefs offered prayers for divine guidance and strength for the monarch as he continued to lead the kingdom.

“We pray that the Almighty God blesses you abundantly with sound health, divine wisdom, and deep understanding to continue to steer the ship of Bonny Kingdom with grace and foresight.”

“May your reign be long, prosperous, and filled with peace.”

The council further praised King Edward for his accessible leadership style and deep connection with his subjects, noting that his reign has demonstrated the true essence of kingship.

“Your Majesty, your large heart, accommodating spirit, and uncommon humility in your relationship with your subjects remain a shining example of true leadership.”

The statement also counts that the King’s approach to governance has shown that leadership goes beyond authority and must be rooted in compassion and service.

“You have shown that kingship is not only about authority but also about compassion, service, and the ability to embrace all with love.”

According to the council, the monarch’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Ibani people has strengthened the relationship between the traditional institution and the community, fostering unity and sustainable progress across the kingdom.

“Your devotion to the welfare of Ibani people has strengthened the bond between the Throne and the community, making Bonny Kingdom a beacon of unity and progress.”

Reaffirming its loyalty to the throne, the Bonny Chiefs’ Council pledged continued support for the monarch in advancing the aspirations of the kingdom and preserving its rich cultural heritage.

“As we mark this milestone, we reaffirm our loyalty and support to Your Majesty, pledging to continue working hand in hand with you to preserve our heritage and advance the collective aspirations of our people.”

The council concluded by praying for greater blessings, renewed strength and divine favour upon the monarch, wishing him many more years of impactful leadership on the throne of his forefathers.

King Edward, one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers, continues to enjoy widespread admiration for his statesmanship, inclusive leadership and steadfast commitment to the development of the Ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom.
