Bonny LG, Saipem Resolve To Ensure Credible Elections In Welders, Fitters Associations

The Bonny Local Government and Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited have resolved to ensure that the elections of the welders and fitters associations at the Train 7 project site are free, fair and credible.

This was the outcome of a meeting between the Administrator of Bonny Local Government Area, Kingsley Banigo, and representatives of Saipem Contracting Nigeria Ltd on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in Bonny, Rivers State.

The Saipem delegation, which was led by the company’s Industrial Relations Manager, Moreton Agbanotujor, included the Community Relations Manager; Duncan Afahular, Human Resources Manager; Anthony Charles, Industrial Relations Advisor; Godswill Jumbo, Human Resources Advisor; Aguiyi Okechukwu, and Government Liaison Officer, Precious Pepple.

Agbanotujor briefed the Administrator about the company’s plan to create a conducive atmosphere for welders and fitters’ associations on its project site to conduct their elections.

He explained that the elections are aimed at resolving the lingering issues bedeviling both associations, stressing that this would help them gain a stronger and more collective voice within the company.

Responding, the Bonny LGA Administrator, Kingsley Banigo stated that it is pertinent that “the electoral process is be free, fair, and credible”.

He advised members of the association currently holding any positions to relinquish them in order to be eligible to partake in the elections that would be conducted by the associations, asserting that this would ensure transparency, tranquility and equity in the process.

Furthermore, Banigo reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violence, disruption or misconduct during elections, stressing that peace and order must be maintained in Bonny LGA.

The Bonny LGA chief executive noted that the successful conduct of these elections is critical to resolving the lingering issues affecting the workers and associations at large.
