The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple, has announced his administration’s intention to convert internally generated revenue accruing from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to counterpart funding for road infrastructure in the LGA.
Pepple made this disclosure on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 while receiving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Adeleye Falade, who visited him in his country home in Bonny, Rivers State.

During the meeting, the Local Government Chairman described the construction of the Simidia Road linking Water Well 5 to Abalamabie Road, as well as a comprehensive drainage and canal network to tackle recurring flooding, as priority projects for his administration.
He explained that the projects are expected to cost over ₦1 billion and appealed to NLNG to partner with his administration by channeling statutory revenue such as tenement rate and other levies accruing from it to the Local Government in 2027 directly towards the execution of the projects as part of the company’s corporate support for Bonny’s development.

Pepple noted that since taking office, his administration has invested significantly in education, security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, human capital development, and support for small and medium enterprises.
He also revealed that Evomec Global Services Limited, the proposed contractor for the projects, is ready to commence work immediately once funding is secured.
“I have a conscience. We must give back to our people. We are prepared to forgo our 2027 statutory tenement rate/revenue from NLNG to make these critical road projects a reality.

Evomec has estimated that the Simidia Road, Akiama Road, and the accompanying drainage infrastructure will cost over N1 billion. I appeal to NLNG to support us by paying the 2027 tenement rate/revenue directly to Evomec so these projects can commence without delay,” he stated.
Abinye Pepple also expressed appreciation to NLNG for its consistent support toward the establishment of the Bonny Fire Station, describing the company’s contributions since 2018 as vital to the successful delivery of the project.

He further requested assistance with the provision of fire hydrants, firefighting equipment, safety kits, and other operational tools to enhance emergency response capacity in the LGA.
In his response, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Adeleye Falade, praised Pepple for the developmental vision and initiatives undertaken by his administration within a relatively short time in office.

“I am impressed by the initiatives and programs of this administration. We will explore ways through which NLNG can support your efforts,” he said.
Reflecting on his years of service in Bonny, Falade remarked:
“In my over 30 years of professional experience, I have not seen a place quite like Bonny. The people are welcoming, peaceful, and cooperative.”
“Bonny is truly special, and we regard it as home. As NLNG continues to thrive here, by God’s grace Bonny Kingdom will also continue to prosper, and the impact of our presence will be felt by the people.”
Responding to the Chairman’s requests on the proposed road projects and additional support for the Bonny Fire Station, the NLNG Managing Director assured the Council that the company would carefully evaluate the proposals.

“We have heard your requests regarding the road projects and the Fire Station. We will carefully review them and explore how NLNG can support the Local Government.”
“This is our way of demonstrating that we want to be part of the remarkable work your administration is doing for the people of Bonny.”

The visit further underscored the longstanding relationship between NLNG and Bonny Local Government and highlighted renewed efforts to strengthen collaboration on infrastructure and community development initiatives.
