Bonny Youth Federation Kicks Off Leadership Transition; Constitutes Electoral Committee

The Bonny Youth Federation has ratified a five-member Electoral Committee to conduct elections into a new Central Executive Council (CEC), setting the stage for a leadership transition as the three-year tenure of the Anthony Banigo-led administration winds down.

The ratification took place during Congress, with delegates representing the various Chieftaincy Houses and the Perekule Royal House participating in the process.

The newly constituted committee comprises Osobonye Longjohn as Chairman; Humphrey Dan-Jumbo as Secretary; Favour Allison as Public Relations Officer; and Ogbenye Brown and Success Banigo as members.

Performing the swearing-in, the outgoing Youth Leader, Anthony Banigo, charged the committee to ensure a peaceful, transparent, credible and accountable electoral process.

Banigo stressed that the committee bears a significant responsibility for delivering a free and fair election capable of producing competent and legitimate leadership to steer the affairs of Bonny Kingdom’s youths for another three-year tenure.

In his farewell remarks, he expressed appreciation to the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom; His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, Perekule XI, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple; the Bonny Chiefs Council; and other stakeholders for their support and contributions to his administration.

He also commended Congress delegates and members of the outgoing CEC for their cooperation, solidarity and commitment, which he said contributed significantly to the administration’s accomplishments.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of Congress, Clarkson Hart; the immediate past General Secretary, Omoni Sylvanus; and Congressman, Valentine Jackmay, commended the Banigo-led executive and Congress delegates for maintaining unity and presenting a united front despite the challenges encountered during the administration’s tenure.

In his acceptance remarks, Electoral Committee Chairman, Osobonye Longjohn, speaking on behalf of the committee, pledged the members’ commitment to conducting a smooth, transparent and credible election within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the federation’s governing framework.

The constitution of the Electoral Committee marks a key step in the transition process, as the outgoing executive prepares to conclude its tenure and pave the way for the election and inauguration of a new Central Executive Council.

The development sets the stage for a new leadership phase in the Bonny Youth Federation, also known as Okoloma-Se Asawo na Ereawo Kubiri, with expectations that the forthcoming electoral process will strengthen unity, accountability and effective representation among youths across the Kingdom.
