Nigerian artistes delivered an impressive showing at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which concluded on Sunday, January 11, 2025 in Lagos, sweeping several top honours and reinforcing the country’s dominance on the African music scene.
The night’s biggest recognition went to Afrobeats heavyweight Burna Boy, who won Album of the Year for his project No Sign of Weakness.

He also secured Best African Collaboration, sharing the award with fellow Nigerian artiste Shallipopi.
Shallipopi capped a breakthrough year by winning Best Collaboration of the Year for his hit single “Laho” with Burna Boy, which gained widespread attention across social media platforms.
Rema emerged as the most decorated artiste of the evening, taking home three awards, Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in R&B and Soul.

Other Nigerian acts were also recognised across key categories.
Singer Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her song You Are from the animated series Iyanu, while rapper Phyno was named Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop.
The awards also celebrated emerging talents, with Qing Madi crowned Most Promising Artiste of the Year and Chella receiving the African Fans’ Favourite award.
The week-long AFRIMA event brought together music professionals, creatives and jurors from across Africa and the diaspora, culminating in a ceremony that highlighted Nigeria’s continued influence and creative strength in African music.
