Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has become the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify after surpassing South African singer Tyla’s previous record.
The Grammy-winning musician reached a new peak of 46.84 million monthly listeners, edging past Tyla’s 46.58 million to reclaim the continental record.

The achievement comes amid the global success of “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Shakira, which serves as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The song has enjoyed widespread international airplay and strong streaming numbers following its performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony, helping Burna Boy expand his global audience.
Beyond the World Cup anthem, Burna Boy continues to record impressive streaming figures through his catalogue of hit songs, including “Last Last,” which remains one of his most successful releases on Spotify.
The latest milestone comes ahead of the release of his next studio album and his planned Unity Tour, both expected later this year.
