A new leadership has emerged at the Bonny Environment Consultants Committee (BECC) following the resignation of its former Chairman and Secretary.
Professor Ibitoru Hart and Amaopusenibo Amairigha Edward Hart both resigned as Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
The new appointments, which have Dr Inyingi Brown as Chairman, Sydney Sunju-Allison; Vice Chairman; , Smart Halliday; Secretary, and Christian Tobin as Assistant Secretary, are with immediate effect.
Amaopusenibo Hart announced the new appointments on behalf of the Chief-in-Charge of Environment and Supervisory Chief for BECC, Se-Alabo Haniel Jack-Wilson Pepple, at a meeting of BECC on Sunday, June 21, 2026 in Bonny, Rivers State.
According to him, the new roles were approved by the Amanyanabo-in-Council of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, DSSRS, JP, Edward I, Perekule XI, on the recommendation of Se-Alabo Jack-Wilson Pepple.
He stated that the appointments were aimed at injecting fresh blood into the day-to-day running of the Committee, urging the members to cooperate fully with the new leadership.
Giving his charge to the Committee, the Supervisory Chief of BECC, Se-Alabo Haniel Jack-Wilson Pepple enjoined the members to be pragmatic in their quest to protect the Bonny Kingdom environment.
He stated that, BECC, being the environmental watchdog of Bonny Kingdom, cannot sleep on its responsibility, challenging it to rise to the occasion of safeguarding the environment, especially, given the multiple developmental projects going on in the Kingdom.
Responding, the incoming Chairman, who spoke through her Vice, Sydney Sunju-Allison, thanked the Amanyanabo, and Bonny Chiefs Council, as well as Amaopusenibo Amairigha Hart for the opportunity to serve.
She assured that BECC under the new leadership would discharge its assigned mandate creditably, adding that it’s a new dawn for the management of the Bonny Kingdom environment.
This leadership transition in BECC is expected to usher in a new vista of environmental accountability and responsible governance in how the environment is managed across Bonny Kingdom.
