The outgoing Commanding Officer 146 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Oyemade Oyewumi, commended troops of the Battalion for their invaluable support during his 24 months in charge of the Unit.
Lt Col Oyewumi gave this commendation on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Farouk Yahaya Camp, home of 146 Battalion in Bonny, during the handing and taking over ceremony between him and his successor, Lt Col David Omale.

“I was able to achieve my goals and that’s because of the support you gave me. 2024 and 2025 have been the best years of my life because I was blessed with very good soldiers.”
He lauded their combat readiness, operational excellence and dutiful compliance to military code of conduct, noting that in discharging their duties creditably, the troops supported the realization of the objectives of the Battalion and the overall mandate of Operation DELTA SAFE, urging them to accord the same level of support to his successor.







The outgoing Commanding Officer had days ahead conducted his ingressing successor around the various facilities, operational assets, duty commitments around the Battalion’s area of operation both the Battalion(Main) in F Yahaya Camp in Bonny, Rivers State and Battalion(Rear) at Eburutu military Cantonment in Calabar, Cross River State.





“The Model Unit of the Nigerian Army”, a name the media in Bonny Island have christened 146 Battalion, is one of Nigerian Army’s critical assets in the Niger Delta focused on protection of national assets such as oil and gas installations, crude oil and gas export terminals and plants and oil and gas pipelines, amongst others, as well as combating threats to the nation’s economy, pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft.
