Concerned stakeholders have raised alarm over the steady and mass influx of Northerners into Bonny Local Government Area, warning against providing a safe haven for fleeing Boko Haram terrorists.

The Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), through its Leader, Anthony Banigo, in a telephone interview with Kristina Reports on Saturday, May 9, 2026, called on security agencies to amplify their vigilance and not allow escaped terrorists from the North find solace in Bonny.

Leader, Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), Anthony Banigo

“Since the road was opened, the number of these guys from the North has multiplied and the concern is that many of them may be Boko Haram fighters escaping from the onslaught of the military in the North.”

“Every day we wake up to find new faces all over the communities in Bonny, some are already creating quarters for themselves in different areas. Take G-Unit area for instance, imagine the multitude there.”

“The mosque at General Kurubo Street is now a habitat, no longer just a place of worship, and every day they are coming in droves. Can the Police, DSS and other security agencies look into this matter?”

“We also observe the audacity that is growing amongst them; the other day, one of them almost stabbed a Bonny boy with a screwdriver, and that’s just one of many other cases. If they continue on that part, it may lead to a security crisis because the youths of Bonny won’t take it.”

On his part, a top security consultant, Richard Abbey called on the Bonny Local Government to urgently ban the operations of commercial motorcycles, advising that tricycles and mini-buses should instead be deployed as alternative mass transport system.

He said the situation where hordes of Northerners flood the community calls for greater scrutiny and vigilance by the security agencies, pointing out that the security indicators are grave, noting that the influx of people into Bonny are not being gauged, residents are not being profiled and the area is not being properly mapped.

He advised that there is an urgent need to review the security dynamics of Bonny LGA alongside its neighbouring communities given the new elements being introduced such population spike, increased in variation of population coloration, aspirations, authority recognitions, and criminal capabilities.

“If we don’t look at the increase in number of people entering Bonny, the aspirations they have, the people they answer to and their capacity to do the wrong things, we may wake up one day and be confronted with a security crisis we may not be able to handle.”

Checks by Kristina Reports revealed that the population of Northerners in certain areas in different parts of Bonny are increasing rapidly, with no proper accountability system.

These areas include G-Unit axis of Sandfield, the abattoir area of Coal Beach, Aganya axis of Bonny Roundabout, certain areas behind Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas off Abalamabie Road, Bonny, and Bonny Mosque by General Kurubo Street adjacent to Assemblies of God Headquarters.
