Construction work on the High Court Complex in Bonny, Rivers State will commence before the end of September 2026, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has said.
Pepple said this on Thursday, July 23, 2026 during a courtesy visit by the Bonny Lawyers Forum (BLF) led by its Chairman, VictorPepple, in his office in Bonny.
The delegation included prominent legal practitioners such as Se-Alabo Abel Attoni, a member of the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), and Secretary to the King Perekule Palace, Amaopusenibo Festus Pepple, among others.
The Chairman, who described the Bonny Lawyers Forum as “a body of distinguished elites within the Kingdom”, expressed appreciation for the visit, disclosing that architectural designs for the proposed High Court Complex are already underway.
Pepple, who stated that the project is aimed at delivering a befitting judicial facility for the community. confirmed that construction is scheduled to commence before the end of September 2026.
The Chairman further reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustained development across the local government area, outlining ongoing projects and initiatives.
Welcoming the proposal to partner with the Forum on the Bonny Heritage Night, the LGA Chairman, in a major show of support, pledged a total sum of ₦15 million towards the event, noting its alignment with his administration’s vision for promoting cultural heritage and tourism.
Additionally, the Bonny LG chief executive announced the sponsorship of Forum members to the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) coming up in August 2026, and other initiatives of the Forum.
The Chairman also announced the provision of office spaces for the Bonny Lawyers Forum and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) within the new Marriage Registry currently under construction, stressing that the move is aimed at strengthening access to pro bono legal services for indigent members of the community.
Earlier, the Forum’s Chairman, Victor Pepple expressed gratitude to the LGA Chairman for granting them audience, commending his administration’s leadership and developmental efforts.
He highlighted notable achievements including the commissioning of the Bonny Fire Service, ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, empowerment initiatives, and the Council’s engagement with NLNG on the redirection of tenement levies toward the construction of internal roads within the Local Government Area.
He also presented some key requests for the Chairman’s consideration, stressing that these would aid the Forum’s members provide pro bono services to indigent residents, and facilitation of job opportunities for young lawyers.
Delivering a vote of thanks, Se-Alabo Abel Attoni expressed appreciation for the LGA Chairman’s support and goodwill, while urging continued collaboration and inclusion of the Forum in future Council engagements.
