The Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area, Confidence Deko, has called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to preserve peace and security in the area.
Deko made the call on Tuesday September 1, 2026, during the Gokana Security Summit, where he stressed that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development and progress in the local government.
The council chairman commended the Paramount Rulers and other stakeholders for their cooperation and contributions towards maintaining peace in Gokana, noting that their collaboration had played a significant role in sustaining the relative peace enjoyed in the area. Deko also highlighted some of the achievements recorded by his administration in the past one year, particularly in the area of human capacity development.
According to him, the security summit was organised as part of preparations for new development initiatives expected to come to the local government, stressing that a peaceful and secure environment was necessary for such investments and projects to thrive.
The council boss further urged residents of Gokana to shun acts capable of disrupting the peace of the area, particularly as the 2027 general elections draw closer. He advised the people to place the peace, security and development of Gokana above political interests, warning against actions that could return the local government to what he described as its dark days.
The summit featured presentations by the following security experts; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations and Training, Nigeria Police Force, Ikechukwu Okoro, a Professor of Security Intelligence and Strategic Studies, Zems Mathias, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Vortex Security Concepts Nigeria, Joey Okocha.
The event was attended by heads of security agencies in Gokana, Paramount Rulers, Chairmen of Council of Chiefs, Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairmen, youth and women leaders, Gokana professionals, representatives of the Farmers Association, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), market unions and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs).
The summit emphasised the need for collective responsibility, dialogue and cooperation among residents and stakeholders in safeguarding the peace and security of Gokana.
Deko reiterated that the peace of Gokana must remain a collective priority, especially in the face of emerging political and developmental challenges.
