Edo Queens have emerged as champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after battling to a hard-fought goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens in the decisive final fixture of the Super Six playoffs on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Heading into the title showdown, Bayelsa Queens needed all three points to leapfrog their rivals and claim the championship, while Edo Queens required only a draw to finish top of the standings.

With the stakes at their highest, the Benin-based side produced a disciplined and resilient performance, successfully neutralising Bayelsa Queens’ attacking threats to secure the result they needed.

The stalemate was enough to hand Edo Queens their second NWFL Premiership title, further sealing their place among the elite clubs in Nigerian women’s football.

The triumph also means Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens are the only teams to have lifted the league trophy twice over the last six seasons.

The title success marks another historic achievement for head coach Moses Aduku, who becomes the first manager to win three NWFL Premiership crowns within a six-season span.

Aduku previously guided Bayelsa Queens to league glory in 2022 before leading Edo Queens to championship victories in both 2024 and 2026.

Elsewhere on the final day of the Super Six, hosts Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons settled for a 0-0 draw, while FC Robo Queens fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Abia Angels.

Edo Queens finished at the summit of the Super Six standings with 10 points, ending the campaign two points clear of runners-up Bayelsa Queens.

Nasarawa Amazons claimed third place, while debutants Abia Angels impressed with a fourth-place finish on six points. FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels completed the table with four points each.

Individual honours were also handed out following the conclusion of the competition.

FC Robo Queens star Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season, while Fatima Oloko received the Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Rivers Angels forward Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens striker Atume Doosuur shared the Golden Boot after finishing the season with 13 goals apiece. Rivers Angels were also recognised with the Fair Play Award.

As league champions, Edo Queens will now represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from August 13 to September 5.

The team will be aiming to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League and continue their journey towards a potential appearance at the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
