Elele Alimini Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has raised alarm over the high risks of medical emergencies in the area due to the prolonged abandonment of the General Hospital in the community.

Paramount Ruler of Elele Alimini Community, Eze Peter Wagbara, in a chat with newsmen on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, described the hospital’s condition as “alarming”.

He stated that repeated appeals to the State Government and National Assembly for its reconstruction have yielded no results, so far, lamenting that the prolonged neglect of the General hospital has subjected his people to untold hardship and health risks.

Checks by Kristina Reports revealed that the facility has remained non-functional for several years, leaving the sick and ailing with no options but to travel long distances for medical care.

A visit by Kristina Reports to the General Hospital revealed extensive vandalism with the premises overgrown by thick vegetation, underscoring the urgent need for rehabilitation.

Kristina Reports further discovered that many residents travel over 27 kilometers away to neighbouring communities like Choba, Ahoada, and others to be able to access treatment.

Also speaking on the issues, an elder in the community, Hyginus Okpakah said the situation has made life extremely difficult, especially, for pregnant women who must travel far for antenatal care and delivery.

Expressing their frustration, a former youth leader and some women in the community also mentioned that the community has endured these challenges for years without intervention.
