Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that the 33.5-kilometre Elele–Umudioga–Egbeda–Ubimini–Ikiri–Omoku Road project is now about 90 percent complete and will be commissioned in May 2026.

The governor made this announcement on Wednesday, March 18, while inspecting the dual carriageway, which spans Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.

Fubara explained that the project is expected to bring an end to the long-standing challenges and security concerns faced by commuters along the corridor.

He described the road as vital to unlocking the economic potential of Omoku, widely referred to as the Gas City of Rivers State.

He further noted that the project is one of the flagship achievements of his administration, aimed at improving road infrastructure and stimulating economic growth.

“From my assessment, about 90 per cent of the job is already done, and what is remaining will be delivered before the end of April,” Fubara said.
“I feel very happy because this is not just a road but a signature project of our administration. It is a road corridor that connects Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.”

Speaking on the security impact, the governor recalled the road’s past reputation for criminal activities, including kidnappings, which had made it dangerous for commuters.

“For those who live and do business in Port Harcourt and Rivers State, you know this road used to be a death trap. Kidnappings and other crimes were common along this corridor.
“I think that with what we have done here today, those issues will be old stories. It won’t occur anymore because security agencies can now easily access the place for any eventuality,” he added.

Fubara also praised the contractor for the quality and speed of the work, especially on the bridge section, expressing confidence that the remaining aspects of the project would be completed before the end of April ahead of its official commissioning.
