The School of Engineering Technology (S.E.T), Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, is set to spotlight the transformative role of women in engineering as it hosts the 2026 edition of the International Women in Engineering Day celebration.
Scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the event, themed “Engineering Intelligence: She Engineers the Future,” will bring together accomplished female engineers, academics and industry professionals to inspire a new generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

The programme, organised by the School of Engineering Technology in conjunction with S.E.T Vice Presidents, is expected to commence at 9:00 a.m. at the SET 500 Building CAPS within the institution.
At the forefront of the gathering are two distinguished figures in engineering and academia.
The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe, will serve as the Special Guest, while Dr. Marvis Arriguzo of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology will feature prominently in the event.

The celebration will also feature an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists, including Chinenye Nnawuihe, Dr. Christy C. Agim, Ph.D, Lydia Chukwuma Uzoma, Obinna Ugochi Vivian, Apkelisu Joseph Onyekara, Chukwudi C. Johnwilliams, and Otu Grace Ogechi.
Beyond the ceremonial recognition of women’s contributions to engineering, the event is designed to challenge stereotypes, encourage mentorship and create conversations around innovation, leadership and inclusivity in the profession.

With rapid technological advancement redefining industries across the globe, organisers believe the future of engineering must be built on diversity of ideas and equal opportunities.
The theme, “She Engineers the Future,” therefore serves not merely as a slogan but as a declaration of confidence in the ingenuity, resilience and capacity of women to drive sustainable development through science and technology.
As students, professionals and stakeholders gather under one roof, the celebration is expected to reaffirm Federal Polytechnic Nekede’s commitment to producing graduates equipped not only with technical expertise but also with the vision to lead societal transformation.
For many young women aspiring to careers in engineering, the message is clear: the future is not waiting to be imagined, it is already being engineered, and women have a defining role to play in shaping it.
