The Federal Government has called on cement manufacturers across the country to reduce the price of cement, saying the current cost is putting pressure on infrastructure projects.
The call was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the unveiling of the new corporate identity of Lafarge Africa, now rebranded as HBM following its acquisition by China’s HUAXIN Group.

Umahi said the Federal Government will begin formal engagements with cement manufacturers from July 1 to address rising prices and reduce demands for contract variations by contractors.
He noted that lower cement prices would support ongoing infrastructure projects and make construction materials more affordable for Nigerians.
The minister also urged manufacturers to increase production capacity, citing the growing demand expected from the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure expansion programme.
