In its bid to expand its legal advocacy and support for women and children across Andoni, Bonny and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas of Rivers State, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria is set to formally inaugurate its Bonny Branch.
Information made available to Kristina Reports by FIDA indicates that the inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026 by 10am at the Kambasa Hall along King William Dappa Pepple Road, Bonny, Rivers State.

The new branch is expected to bring FIDA Nigeria’s advocacy, legal assistance and rights-protection services closer to communities in the three local government areas, particularly women and children who require access to justice and legal support.
FIDA Nigeria describes its mandate as promoting, protecting and preserving the rights, interests and well-being of women and children through the law, while working to address discrimination, violence and other violations of their rights.
The Bonny Branch inauguration also comes against the backdrop of ongoing interventions by FIDA Rivers in cases involving vulnerable women and children.
In June 2026, FIDA Rivers intervened in the case of a two-week-old male infant who was allegedly abandoned in front of a shrine in Abua Central, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Chairperson of FIDA Rivers State Branch, Tamunoibuemi Life-George, said the organisation acted immediately after receiving information about the abandoned child.
“We immediately escalated the incident and got the child rescued through the support of the police,” Life-George said.
She disclosed that FIDA subsequently worked to secure the infant’s safety and facilitate medical assessment, while also providing emergency support to the young mother to enable her to continue breastfeeding the child.
The intervention demonstrates the kind of grassroots legal and social support that the Bonny Branch is expected to bring closer to residents within its area of coverage.
FIDA Nigeria’s official records list Rivers among its state branches, while the organisation continues to establish and strengthen branch structures as part of its nationwide rights advocacy.
The Bonny inauguration has also been publicly announced by FIDA Rivers, which confirmed that the branch will be inaugurated on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The organisers have invited members of the legal profession, traditional institutions, government, civil society organisations, community leaders, women and youth organisations, as well as friends and well-wishers, to attend the ceremony.
The event is expected to formally welcome the Bonny Branch into the FIDA Nigeria family and mark the beginning of a new phase of legal service, advocacy and community engagement across Andoni, Bonny and Opobo/Nkoro.
Beyond the inauguration ceremony, the establishment of the branch is expected to provide a closer platform for residents to seek information and assistance on issues affecting women and children, including abuse, violence, discrimination, child welfare and access to justice.
The development is therefore positioned as an expansion of FIDA’s grassroots presence in Rivers State, with the new branch expected to deepen awareness of legal rights and strengthen support for vulnerable members of communities across the three local government areas.
