The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly over the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Governor Fubara is not at loggerheads with members of the State Assembly, but is working closely with them in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
The statement followed reports published by some national newspapers and online platforms, which allegedly insinuated that the Executive and Legislative arms of government are at odds over the 2026 budget proposal.
According to the state government, the 2026 Budget proposal has already been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process. It expressed confidence that the lawmakers would pass the budget once the legislative process was completed.
The government also appealed to individuals and groups to desist from promoting what it described as negative narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension in the state. It noted that Rivers State had experienced difficult times in the past and stressed the need to maintain peace and harmony to facilitate steady development across the state.
The statement urged all stakeholders to support an atmosphere of cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government for the benefit of Rivers residents.
