Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that they are an “integral part of the ‘Rivers First’ Agenda,” reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security.
The Governor gave the assurance on Friday August 7, 2026 at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Promise Oguzie, Governor Fubara urged the corps members to be “role models and quality nation-builders” in their service to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria. He also reassured them of his administration’s deliberate commitment to their “welfare and security” throughout their service year.
Earlier in his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator in Rivers State, Moses Oleghe, encouraged the corps members to regard their posting to the state as a “veritable opportunity to make meaningful contribution to the growth of the state in particular and Nigeria at large.”
He further charged them to serve with “integrity, discipline, and the fear of God, especially when they will be engaged as INEC ad-hoc staff that will conduct the 2027 general elections.”
Oleghe also appealed to Governor Fubara to approve the release of funds for the immediate commencement of the construction of separate 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female corps members at the orientation camp.
Kristina Reports gathered that a total of 3,584 corps members, comprising 1,421 males and 2,163 females, took the oath of allegiance during the ceremony administered by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, represented by Justice Godspower Aguma.
