Days after the Federal Government endorsed Bonny Island as a national tourism destination, violence erupted again in Finima Community with gun shots renting the air and several residents injured.
Finima is one of the communities that comprise both Bonny Kingdom and Bonny Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to Kristina Reports that some unidentified persons moved from house to house about 2am on Saturday, August 22, 2026 assaulting residents.
As at 7am gun shots filled the air in Finima with residents not knowing who was shooting or where the gunshots were coming from.
Recall that the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy had via a letter referenced FMACTCE/HM/114/I, dated August 12, 2026, and signed by the Minister, Hannatu Musawa, endorsed Bonny as tourism destination of choice.
She stated that the endorsement was the outcome of an official assessment of the island’s tourism assets.
As at the time of this report, neither Police or any other security agency had issued a statement on the developments in Finima.
