The Imo State Government has received another consignment of modern medical equipment for the ongoing upgrade of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, in Owerri West Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare services across the state.
The latest delivery arrived on Sunday, July 5, 2026, with six trailers conveying critical hospital equipment, including Intensive Care Unit (ICU) machines, paediatric incubators, hospital beds, consulting room facilities, modern hospital furniture and other specialist medical equipment needed to improve patient care.

The equipment forms part of the ongoing reconstruction and modernization of the state-owned specialist hospital, which is expected to provide improved emergency, critical care, maternal and child healthcare services while reducing the need for residents to seek specialist treatment outside Imo State.

The state government said the project reflects its commitment to making quality healthcare more accessible to residents.
“This isn’t just about medical items; it is about a government that listens.”
“For too long, our people have had to travel far or struggle to get basic specialist care.”
“But that story is changing.”
The government noted that the ongoing hospital upgrade is aimed at creating a modern healthcare facility capable of handling more complex medical cases with improved infrastructure and equipment.
Yobachi Engineering Services Limited, the contractor handling the project, confirmed that the latest delivery represents only one phase of the equipment installation.
“This is just the beginning.”
“Six trailers loaded with these critical medical items rolled into the facility in the latest batch, with more still on the way.”
“We assure Imo people that the timeline for the completion of the project will be met.”
The latest delivery follows earlier healthcare reforms by Hope Uzodimma’s administration, including plans for a robotic surgery centre at the same hospital, designed to introduce advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures and position Imo as a destination for specialist healthcare and medical innovation.

After the first reference, Uzodimma has consistently described healthcare as one of the priorities of his administration.
The government has not disclosed the monetary value of the equipment or the exact number of individual machines supplied in the latest consignment.
