High Tension Cable Fire Kills Two, Destroys Homes in Rivers Community

Tragedy has struck Okrika Local Government Area in Rivers State as a high-tension cable sparked a massive fire that destroyed several houses and properties, claimed two lives, and left dozens homeless.

The incident occurred around midnight breaking Monday, June 2, 2025 affecting multiple locations including the Local Government quarters, Ogan Bridge axis, and the Pipeline area.

Eyewitnesses told Kristina Reports that two men died in separate houses while trying to manage electrical switches during the power surge. One of the victims was identified as an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while the other was reportedly helping his family evacuate when the fire broke out.

According to the eye witnesses, the fire started from the local government area to the Redeemed Church around Pipeline, the fire affected many families. Some people died, others broke legs and got seriously injured while trying to escape.

Many residents also reported extensive damage to electrical appliances, adding to the loss of property already suffered in the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement or emergency response has been issued by relevant authorities, and affected families remain without aid.
