Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has spoken about his role in supporting his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election with his Mobile phone.
Speaking during an interview with journalists on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Davido reflected on the election and the political challenges he said his family faced during the campaign.

The singer described the election as a major political battle involving influential figures and individuals with access to substantial government resources. However, he maintained that he was able to make a significant impact through his mobile phone and his extensive social media reach.
Davido portrayed the election as a contest between his personal influence and the combined political strength of several powerful figures. He claimed that he went up against 17 governors who had access to government machinery, security personnel, financial resources and other political advantages.
“I defeated 17 Governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions I defeated them with just a phone.”
His comments highlight the growing role of social media and celebrity influence in Nigerian politics, particularly during election campaigns. Davido has frequently used his substantial online following to express political views and support members of his family, especially his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.
By stressing that he achieved the feat with “just a phone,” the singer appeared to underscore the growing power of digital platforms as tools for political communication and mobilisation.
With millions of followers across social media platforms, Davido has the ability to communicate directly with a large audience, allowing him to promote political messages and campaign for causes without depending entirely on traditional political structures.
His involvement in the Osun election has consequently drawn attention to the increasing intersection between entertainment, celebrity influence and electoral politics in Nigeria.
