Nigeria International defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel has joined newly promoted side Birmingham City on a three-year contract following the expiration of his contract with Fenerbahçe.

The 27-year-old defender had an impressive four-and-a-half-year -year spell at St Andrew’s where he made 178 appearances for the club now coached by José Mourinho.

Speaking during the announcement, the Nigerian player, revealed his desire to play in the top flight of English football.

“I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do,” Osayi-Samuel told Birmingham’s website.

“Coming to Birmingham City now is another step for me, an opportunity to show everyone where I’ve been for the last four years.”

Osayi-Samuel adds a lot of quality to the English side and would be instrumental as they chase promotion to the Premier league, he is a versatile player who can function effectively across the right flank, even as a right-back, wing-back, or even a traditional winger.

Born in Okija, Nigeria, Osayi-Samuel has made 22 appearances for Nigeria since his debut in a friendly game against Portugal in 2022, and was part of the squad which finished as runners up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Osayi-Samuel has also had a two-year stint with Blackpool, where he signed his first professional contract at 17 years old. After gathering experience in Blackpool, he moved to Queens Park Rangers and enjoyed a productive four-year spell spanning from 2017–2021, where he was awarded the Young Player of the Year for 2019/20.
