Member representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has officially defected to the , marking a significant political development in .

Ikwechegh, popularly known as “Onyeocha N’Aba,” completed his ward-level registration into the Labour Party in Aba, where he was received by party faithful and supporters. The defection follows his recent resignation from the (APGA), ending his affiliation with the party under which he was previously aligned.

Sources within Aba also confirmed that several local party officials who were loyal to the lawmaker have reportedly exited APGA alongside him, signaling a possible shift in grassroots political structure within the commercial city.

Shortly after formalizing his membership, Ikwechegh paid a visit to the Government House in Umuahia, where he met with Governor . The meeting is being interpreted by political observers as a strategic alignment that could strengthen the Labour Party’s foothold in Aba and surrounding areas.
