The Speaker of the Rivers State Youths Parliament (RSYP), Victor Ibaningo has called for calm amongst youths of the State amidst the political crisis raging in the State.
Ibaningo, who made this call on Monday, January 19, 2026 in a statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, maintained that Rivers’ youths should not involve themselves in the ongoing impeachment crisis.
He noted that due to the political turmoil, Rivers State is now on a snail speed in terms of its development trajectory, pointing out that this has affected the impact of the government policies and programmes on the youths.
“Youths’ involvement will only lead to more chaos, as such the need for youths of Rivers State to be calm and allow stakeholders to intervene”, he said.
However, Ibaningo appealed to members of the State House of Assembly to rethink their actions as Rivers State has not enjoyed good governance due to the continued political instability, and consider giving peace a chance.
In the same vein, the RSYP Speaker condemned calls by youths from certain quarters advocating for violence, asserting that resort to violence at such a critical moment in the State’s history does not reflect the true nature of Rivers State youths.
