The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The electoral body said the submission period, which was initially expected to close on Saturday, July 11, 2026, will now remain open until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday July 12, 2026, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, explained that the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the online upload of their candidates’ information before the original deadline.

Haruna noted that the extension is in line with the commission’s determination to promote inclusiveness while remaining within the provisions of the law.

“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law,” the statement read.

INEC called on all political parties yet to complete the submission process to make use of the additional time to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates before the new deadline.

The commission also emphasised that all submissions must be completed by midnight on Tuesday, July 14, noting that no further extension was announced in the statement.
