Josh Maja returned to the scoreboard in the Championship, but it was not enough to save West Brom from defeat as Norwich City claimed a 3–1 win at Carrow Road.

The Nigerian striker ended a lengthy goal drought with a well-taken equaliser, only for the Canaries to respond with two late goals to secure all three points.

Josh Maja ends Championship drought against familiar foes

There was a sense of relief when Maja found the net midway through the second half.

The Super Eagles forward had gone 24 league matches without scoring, a barren spell stretching over four months. His last Championship goal had also come against Norwich City — a 1–0 victory on October 1, 2025.

Once again, Norwich proved to be the team he enjoys facing. Set through by Ousmane Diakite in the 68th minute, Maja showed sharp movement and calm finishing to level the score at 1–1. It was a clinical touch from a striker who needed that moment.

Although he scored in an FA Cup draw with Swansea in January, this strike marked only his second Championship goal of the campaign.

Maja now has three goals and one assist across all competitions this season — modest numbers, but a sign that he could be finding rhythm at a key stage of the campaign.

Before Josh Maja’s equaliser, it was Norwich City who struck first. In the 31st minute, Harry Darling threaded a precise pass into Edmond-Paris Maghoma, who finished calmly to put the hosts ahead.

West Brom improved after the break and looked capable of turning the game around once Josh Maja restored parity. For a brief period, momentum seemed evenly balanced.

But Norwich found another gear late on.

With eight minutes remaining, Anis Ben Slimane delivered a pinpoint cross that Benjamin Chrisene converted to make it 2–1.

As West Brom pushed forward in search of another equaliser, they left gaps at the back. Deep into stoppage time, Ben Slimane turned provider again, setting up Mohamed Toure to wrap up the result in the 93rd minute.

It was a ruthless finish from Norwich City — two decisive assists from Ben Slimane and a clinical edge when it mattered most.
